[Class 109.] A " serving" tool for riggers comprises a body part having a groove on the face to engage the work and a bobbin on the back to carry the serving; this is led from the bobbin b through an eye v and a hole e in the nose of the tool, on to the work which rests in the groove Q. An adjustable friction device made up from a spring and leather washers h is incorporated in the mounting of the bobbin, enabling the tension in the serving to be varied. The tool may be of wood or metal and may be modified to bind an eye-splice, Fig. 10, in which case the handle is shortened and the axis of the bobbin arranged parallel to the work.
