[Class 100 (ii).] In a machine for casting stereotypes and foi backing electrotypes of the kind in which the mould is adapted to be pressed during casting against the outlet aperture of the pot, the lever controlling the drive for closing the mould and opening the valve in the outlet is connected with the side bars and the clip for holding the matrix or electrotype so that it is locked against operation except when the bars and clip are in correct position for casting. As shown, the matrix clip f, which is under the control of a handle v, is provided with a stop against which the free end of a lever i, pivoted to the back c of the mould, is pressed by a spring m. The other end of the lever i is connected to a second lever n pivoted on the back and carrying an adjustable stop o engaging a lever p connected to another lever r. When the clip is closed, the lever r is moved to release a stop s on the starting-lever h. A catch t, pivoted on the back c, engages, when the clip is open and the side bars g are moved out of position, with a projection u on the lever i, but is released from the projection when the bars g are moved into the back.
