Abstract
371,166. Stoppers for petrol cans &c. STEVENS, T. A. and CEANDESS, Ltd., Merridale Street West, Wolverhampton. April 25, 1931, No. 12281. [Class 125 (iii).] Relates to stoppers for petrol tanks &c. of the type in which locking arms, fitted to and rotating with the stopper, are free to move axially in relation to the stopper against a spring and engage projections in the neck of the tank. According to the invention the cap has a central depending member and a locking-plate axially movable thereon which is prevented from rotating relatively to the stopper by engaging with a member fixed to the stopper and located between the depending member and the rim of the stopper. The depending member comprises a hollow sleeve 7, having an antisplash device consisting of a cone 16 attached to the lower end thereof, as described in Specification 322,291, [Class 125 (iii), Stoppers &c.] ; another cone 18 is secured to the top of the sleeve, and both cones and the stopper have vent-holes 20, 21, 22. The sleeve 7 has a downwardly extending skirt 9, into slots 12 of which fit the three channelled arms 10 of an annular locking-plate 23 which when rotated ride over projections 4 in the neck of the tank and engage the projecting members 15, which prevent further rotation, the parts being locked into position by the pressure of the spring 13. A sealing disc of leather or the like 19 is riveted between the stopper 5 and the sleeve 7.
