Abstract
369,906. Electrically y-released switches; tumbler switches. MARSTON, G. S. and STATTER, J. G., 16, Great George Street, London. Dec. 29, 1930, No. 39053. [Class 38 (v).: Spring contacts F<1>, F<2>, carried respectively by the arms D<1>, D<2> of a toggle joint, are closed by a tumbler A which straightens the toggle, and are opened by springs E<1>, E<2> when the connection between the toggle and the tumbler is interrupted by an electromagnetic overload release H. The end a<1> of the tumbler A acts in a slot in one end of a bent strip spring b, to move it downwards, thereby acting on a pin d3, at the connection of the toggle links, to straighten the toggle. On overload a plunger h is raised, and by means of a lever i lifts the spring b away from the casing C to allow the pin d<3> to move upwards under the action of the springs E<1>, E<2>, which break the toggle. A container K which supports the plunger h may be adjustably mounted in a tube L by means of a screw m, and a ring M, and a constriction k<1> of the container K is in frictional engagement with the plunger h, so that by varying the position of the plunger h, and, therefore, the distance that it moves, the time taken to open the circuit may be varied. The container K contains a lubricant such as that known under the registered Trade Mark " Vaseline." In the closed position of the switch, hoods G<1>, G<2> of asbestos take the position shown in Fig. 4 to divide and extinguish the are produced when the circuit is broken.
