Abstract
333,207. Crompton Parkinson, Ltd., and Page, G. May 3, 1929. Fusible cut-outs.-In fusible cut-outs where, on fusing, the terminals are moved apart by a spring and where the fusible element may have insufficient mechanical strength to support the spring, the movable terminal is movably mounted on another movable member, and is provided with a catch which locks the spring in its stressed condition, being released on fusing of the element, or the spring is set near a dead centre so that its leverage increases on the element fusing. In Fig. 1 the sliding member 15 to which the end of the spring 16 is attached carries the terminal 24 on a pivoted catch-lever 20 engaging a hole 22 in the casing. When the element 25 fuses, the catch is released, and a projection 18 on the carrier 15 may strike a plunger 19 operating apparatus such as is described in Specification 333,206, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.]. In a modification, the sliding member 15 may carry a ball clutch engaging holes in the casing, the clutch being released on the element fusing. In this construction the element 25 is arranged within the casing, and the spring 16 carries the current in lieu of a flexible lead 32. In Fig. 4, the spring 16 is attached to a lever 20a pivoted at 20b and connected to a link 62 carrying the movable terminal 23. On the element 25 fusing, the leverage of the spring 16 increases, the cap 60a. with or without the casing 11a, being drawn away with the terminal 23. The lever 20a may also operate the trip gear of a circuit-breaker.
