Abstract
563,528. Automatic circuit-breakers. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Nov. 26, 1942, No. 16778. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1941. [Class 38 (v)] Each pole of a multi-pole circuit-breaker is adapted to be separately released and, in releasing, trip the other pole or poles, and the handle is associated with the toggles of the poles through a single common locking or detent device. The movable contacts 14 are mounted on a transverse bar 4 by means of toggles 8, 9 which are normally held overset and acted upon by throw-off springs (not shown), the toggles being adapted to be independently broken by a trip force in the direction of arrows 37 so that pins 18 strike one arm 17 of a release member 12 freely pivoted on bar 4, the arm 16 of the other pole thus breaking the other toggle. When push button 1 is depressed, bar 4 is driven downwards by spring 5 and slot 3, and latched by a recess 21 in a spring pawl 19 pivoted at 20. At the same time, the spring-controlled abutment 33 on button 1 depresses a detent 27 until arrested by the upper slot end 28 engaging fixed pin 29, so arresting downward movement of 4. When released button 1. is raised by spring 5 and a spring 32 moves detent 27 clear, its pin 30 riding up the left side of fixed cam slot 31. To switch off, button 1 is again depressed, but abutment 33 clears the detent 27 and an abutment 6 on the button-stem 2 engages part 13 of the lever 12 and trips both poles ; bar 4 is released by abutment 7 engaging pawl 19 which, through a pin 26, pushes detent 27 back to the Fig. 2 position.
