Abstract
369,861. Metallic-vapour rectifiers. ELIN AKT.-GES. FUR ELEKTRISCHE INDUSTRIE, 1, Volksgartenstrasse, Vienna. Aug. 24, 1931, No. 23754. Convention date, Aug. 26, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] In an immovable metallic-vapour rectifier of the type in which a mercury or like bridge which is contained in a lateral extension a, Fig. 1, of the container and connects main and auxiliary electrodes K, Z, is ruptured to produce a spark to initiate the discharge, the rupture is effected solely by the " pinch " effect of the current passing. The cross section of the bridge in the plane A-B or throughout its length may be shaped as shown in Figs. 1a to 5. The starting current may be obtained from an auxiliary transformer, which is subsequently cut out by means of a relay operated by the rectified current. The rectifier may have an iron or glass container.
