Abstract

369,209. Compressors actuated by engine suction. ENTWISTLE, W. L. and ENTWISTLE, F., Park Works, Canute Street, Bolton. Dec. 12, 1930, 'No. 37462. [Class 8 (i).] A main cylinder 2 contains pistons 8, 8a actuated by engine suction and parallel air compressing cylinders 4, 4a which are reciprocated over fixed pistons 5, 5a by the pistons 8, 8a. The space between the pistons 8, 8a is always open to atmosphere, the spaces outside these pistons are opened alternately to atmosphere and to the suction, through tubes 9, 9a by a valve comprising a pair of discs carrying a partition 19a and open to the atmosphere by openings 19b. The valve is actuated by levers 13 carrying a cross pin 12 shifted from, one position to another by a pair of grooves in a spring-pressed block 11 slid to and fro by contact with projections on the pistons 8, 8a. The compression cylinders receive air through valves 4w and deliver through valves 5w in the piston rods 7, 7a. In a modification, Fig. 5, a sliding valve 19w is used, actuated by levers 13x carrying a spring-pressed pointed member 11x actuated by a second member 11w which is shifted by projections on the pistons 8.
