Abstract

Puzzuolana or trass is used as a support for a finely divided metal or metal-oxide catalyst used for the oxidation of ammonia. The catalyst may be prepared by impregnating puzzuolana with a solution of ammonium bichromate, ammonium molybdate, or tungsten or manganese acetate, drying, and roasting at 1000 DEG C. for five minutes. It may be regenerated by heating to a temperature above that of the reaction.
