[Class 36.] In order to determine the temperature in a cable under test or working conditions, thermocouples are arranged in the interior of the cable during manufacture and connected to measuring instruments outside the cable. The current supply leads and the leads to the measuring instruments may be conducting layers arranged in the cable, or lead-in wires, such as the thermo-couple wires themselves, may be provided. The thermo-couples and lead-in wires may be stranded with the cable conductors, inserted between the conductors and the insulation, arranged in the triangular spaces between the cores in a multicore cable, or may be placed between the lead sheath and the insulated core or the armouring. A paper, cotton, rubber or like sheath may protect the thermo-couples. As shown, an auxiliary wire 1 with insulation 2 has conductor wires 3 stranded over the insulation 2. A thermo-couple 4 is inserted in the insulation 2. Insulation 5, a lead sheath 6, and armouring 7 complete the cable.
