Abstract

368,158. Bottle-capping machines. FALTLHAUSER, W., 1, Odeonsplatz, Munich, Germany. June 2, 1931, No. 16130. Convention date, June 2, 1930. [Class 125 (ii).] In a machine for closing vessels, particularly bottles, capsules and safety-rings are fed, in two planes, one above the other, to a ram, prior to application to the bottle. The capsules and rings may be fed by hand to the ram, and held therein by spring tongues. As shown, a ram o, connected to a lifting rod l, by means of a tie y, works in a guide qu, and supplies, through ducts, capsules A and sealing rings from a container w fitted with assorting wheels u on a common driving shaft v. The ram o is raised and held lifted by the gear g, the spring k which is attached to the sliding sleeve i and the union m, and the stop n, and falls under gravity. A pressure bar Z, controlled by a lever Z<1>, stop Z<11> and a cam on the tie y, is drawn up against the spring Z<111>, the ducts are exposed and a capsule and sealing ring admitted to the jaws D in the ram o. When the ram o falls the ducts are blocked and the pressure bar Z, falling more swiftly than the ram o, strikes the dome of the capsule held in the jaws ; the capsule opens and on further downward motion the capsule is pressed on to the bottle and the ring pressed over the capsule. When the ram rises the dome of the capsule springs back, and the jaws D are held open frictionally by springs, or by bevels D<11>, which are engaged by a smaller ram J working within the ram o, until near the top of the rise, when they are closed by oblique faces H striking the guide. On the downward movement the second capsule and ring, Fig. 13, are pushed back by bevels K attached to the ram o, which is flattened on two sides and prevented from rotating by a guide which supports the capsules and rings. The pressing surface c of the ram o conforms to the finished shape of the capsule head.
