Abstract

Cellulose ester coating compositions contain paraldehyde as latent solvent or as diluent to the extent of about 20 per cent or more by weight. The latent solvent power of paraldehyde may be rendered active by means of solvent or non-solvent activators such as ethyl alcohol, methylated spirit, acetone, methylethylketone, and ethylidene-acetone. Examples are given of nitrocellulose coating compositions in which (1) the diluent is paraldehyde, with or without toluene, (2) the solvent is a mixture of methyl lactate, paraldehyde, and methylated spirit.ALSO:Cellulose ester coating compositions contain paraldehyde as latent solvent or as diluent to the extent of about 20 per cent or more by weight.
