Abstract

D-( - )- or L-(+)-threo-1-p-nitrophenyl-2-di-chloroacetamidopropane-1,3-diol or mixtures thereof are obtained by heating D-( - )- or L-(+)-threo-1-p-nitrophenyl-2-aminopropane-1,3-diol or mixtures thereof with an alkyl ester of dichlorothioacetic acid in which the alkyl group contains not more than four carbon atoms. Inert solvents, e.g. methanol, propanol, ethanol or ethyl acetate may be present. Specified alkyl esters are the methyl and ethyl esters. Examples are provided in which the (D+L)-threo-substituted diol is heated with methyl or ethyl dichlorothioacetate and ethyl acetate, methanol or ethanol may be used as solvents.
