Abstract

364,421. Wire resistances; heating liquids &c. by electricity. BADER, K., 65, Cunostrasse, Grunewald, Berlin. March 9, 1931, No. 7267. Convention date, March 17, 1930. [Class 37.] A high temperature immersion heater for metal baths and the like comprises a ceramic resistance support composed of separately burnt cubes 5 of ceramic material centrally bored and arranged in series, the resistance wire being threaded through the central bore and the whole support surrounded by an envelope 4 of heat permeable and non- oxidizable material such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum or iridium foil, and placed in a flexible casing 2 the joints 1 of which are welded. The element possesses a slight degree of pliability and the metal foil 4 prevents oxide slag &c. falling between the ceramic supporting blocks and shortcircuiting the resistance. The end support of each series of supports is provided with lateral slots from the central bore to the side face to permit the resistance wire being passed from one series of supports to the next. Moreover, an additional row of blocks is provided between the housing and the end row of the blocks containing resistance wire.
