Abstract

364,256. Washing flue gases. FREY, M., 92, Groenendijle, Dordrecht, Holland. Nov. 17, 1930, No. 34599. Convention date, July 31. [Class 55 (ii).] Solid impurities such as ashes are removed from flue gases by passing them through a conduit 1 into which water is sprayed through a perforated pipe 3, and giving them a spiral motion by a fixed propeller blade 4, so that the solids are flung out by centrifugal force, and retained by the water flowing down the inside of the conduit. The water, with the solid impurities in suspension, is discharged through pipe 7, and the purified flue gases through outlet 6. In a modification, the apparatus is made in sections bolted together so that it may be reduplicated by addition of one or more spraying conduits. In Fig. 4 a spiral path is given to the gases by admitting them through a pipe 11 tangentially to the container 10, water being supplied through a pipe 12, and the gas being withdrawn through an outlet 13. Any sulphur dioxide present in the gases will also be removed.
