Abstract
363,719. Machinery guards. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and TURNER, J., Coventry Road, Pailton, near Rugby. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28465. [Class 80 (iv).] Adjustable guards for machines having a metal-cutting tool supported in a frame over a horizontal table, such as milling-machines, comprise a trellis or other expanding shield 13, one end of which is vertically adjustable in a clamp 12 to clear the work 2, the clamp being horizontally adjustable and clampable on a bar 7 projecting from the frame-part 5, in order to clear the cutter 3. The other end is adjustably latched to the frame-part 6 by engaging one of a series of hooks 15 with one of the reduced parts of a pin 14. The guard, in addition to being collapsable, may also be hinged at 11 to swing open. To accommodate the largest cutters, a further joint may be provided to allow tilting. In a modification, the clamp 12 is supported by a bracket 91, Fig. 2, projecting from a perpendicular face of the frame-part 5 and having slotted bolt-holes 16 for horizontal adjustment. Guards may be provided both at the front and rear of the tool, as shown in Fig. 2.
