Abstract
363,095. Cutting cheese &c. ASHTON, J., 9, Elm Road, Hereford. Nov. 18, 1930, No. 34651. [Class 87 (ii).] An appliance for cutting cheese &c. comprises two vertical frames, one fixed to a base and the other slidable along the base, guided by the fixed frame, and adapted to carry a cutter wire. The fixed inner frame 2 comprises a U-shaped main part, of which the lower arm is bolted to the base 11, and two vertical members 4, which are joined at the top by a cap 4a and clamp the ends of the U-shaped member. The upper arm of the frame 2 is resiliently supported on a compression spring 5. The outer frame 1 is free to slide in a slot 14 in the base member and has its upper arm shorter than the lower with a cutter wire 15 stretched obliquely between them. The lower end of the wire 15 is attached to the frame 1 by a shackle 17 which surrounds the lower arm of the frame 2 and bears against a compression spring 20. The upper end of the wire 15 is attached to a tensioning device comprising a pivoted lever 21 which is held in position by a lever 22 which engages a cross pin 24. Ball-bearing rollers 31 .. 34 are provided at the ends of the U-shaped frames to facilitate sliding and the roller 31 has flanges 35 to guide the frame 1. The cheese is placed on the base 11 against the stop 37 and the frame 1 is drawn back against the spring 20, thus compressing the spring 5 and putting additional tension on the wire.
