[Class 146 (iii).] In a collapsable-sac self-filling fountain pen of the kind in which the sac 14 is deflated by endwise pressure on a plunger 19 mounted in the end of the barrel 10 to cause buckling of a spring 15 carrying the presser-bar 16, the inner end of the spring abuts against a projection:in the barrel to prevent the ejection of the frictionally-mounted nib section 11, and a device is interposed between the inner end of the spring and the sac to prevent chafing. The barrel, which may be made of the material known under the Trade Mark " Pyralin," hard rubber, or the like, is provided with a groove into which is forced a section 22a of a sleeve 22 formed with three sections of different diameters. The section 22b is of the internal diameter of the barrel, and the section 22c is of smaller diameter to form with the barrel an annular space to receive the inner end of the spring 15 which is curved to fit into the space formed. The sleeve 22 also serves to prevent subsequent shrinkage of the barrel.
