Abstract
363,066. Fluid pressure b r a k e s LLOYD, H. J., Thorpe Lodge, Thorpe -le-Soken, Essex, and RICHARDS, S. H., 10, Patten Road, Wandsworth Common, London. Nov.3, 1930, No. 32993. [Class 103 (i).] In hydraulic mechanism, particularlv for actuating brakes, of the kind such as described in Specification 348,691, comprising liquid forcing pistons 3, 5, Fig. 1, differing in diameter, a pressure-actuated valve is provided for allowing liquid to be forced by the pistons 3, 5 in succession. The valve comprises pads 19, 20 on stems 17, 18, carried by connected pistons or diaphragms 15, 16 differing in diameter, and acted on by a spring 24. The arrangement is such that liquid is first rapidly forced into the brake cylinders 23 by the large piston 3 to take up the brake clearances and when the pressure is sufficient to overcome the spring 24, the cylinder 2 is cut off and the cylinder 4 is connected and the final pressure is applied by the smaller piston 5. The pad 19 may be carried by a spring-supported sleeve 29, Fig. 2, and either or both pads may be replaced or supplemented by a rubber sleeve 31, Fig. 3.
