Abstract

Dentures and palatal plates are made by taking a plaster cast of the part of the mouth to be fitted, casting thereon a positive mould member of an easily fusible metal, such as a bismuth alloy (m.pt. 120 DEG C.), removing the plaster cast, and covering the moulded metal member with a layer of metal by electroplating after coating the parts to be left blank with insulating varnish. The mould is then melted out. Cores of gold, or nickel alloy or nickel may thus be obtained, a nickel anode and an electrolytic bath containing compounds such as nickel sulphate, potassium and sodium tartrate, ammonium chloride, sodium citrate, boric acid being used in the latter case. The nickel core may be used directly, or coated on the palatal side with gold, or on one side with gold and the other with chromium.
