[Class 100 (i).] Web-roll changing devices.-In a web-roll renewi n g mechanism for a printing- machine, the expiring w e b i s deflected i n t o contact with a new roll by the bodily movement of a deflecting member n o r - mally rotating in contact with the running web. The web W passing from the active roll A is engaged by a brush 54 or other cylindrical member having a soft surface, driven at web speed by a chain or belt 64 which receives motion from a sprocket wheel or pulley 63a on the driving shaft 61 of the feeding belts 53. The chain 64 passes round guide sprockets 67 and round a sprocket 68 on the shaft of the brush 54, a pair of idler sprockets 69 maintaining the wrap of the chain 64 round the sprocket 68. The shafts of the brush and of the sprockets 69 are carried by a pair of links 70 pivotally connected to arms 94 which are pivoted on a shaft 93 and carry arms 92 engaging cams 88 on a shaft 81. This shaft is normally stationary but can be operatively connected by a clutch and handle to the shaft 61, to cause the cams 88 to depress the links 70 so that the web W is deflected by the brush 54 into engagement with the previously pasted surface of the reserve roll B.
