[Class 100 (i).] Web-roll changing-devices; feeding webs.-In a web-renewing apparatus for pasting a new web from a roll R, Fig. 1, to an expiring web W, the belt 18 for rotating the roll R prior to contact with the web is carried by two spaced pulleys which are mounted for swinging movement about a point between them. The belt 18 passes around a driving-pulley 17 mounted in one end of a pivoted frame 21 mounted on a shaft 13 which is driven by sprocket gearing from a shaft 11 about which is pivoted a bracket 12 in which the shaft 13 is mounted. The belt 18 also passes around an adjustably mounted pulley 19 at the other end of the frame 21, and around an idle pulley 22 freely mounted on the shaft 13. The bracket 12 can be raised or lowered by means of a slotted link 27 and a lever arm 28 on an operating shaft 29, which may be arranged to control more than one belt 18. The belt 18 is adapted to embrace the roll over a length of arc extending between the two pulleys 17, 19, and this arc is maintained in all positions of the roll R as this is swung towards the web W to make the splice, and it is also maintained if the belt continues to contact with the roll R as it is unwound.
