Abstract

361,450. Valve detecting and amplifying circuits. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Aug. 30, 1930, No. 25979. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1929. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v).] The input circuit of a thermionic rectifier comprises an impedance and a condenser, the latter being connected to the rectifier cathode and also between grid and cathode of the subsequent amplifier; the condenser is shunted by a resistance and its capacity is such that no high-frequency potential exists between the rectifier cathode and either of the condenser electrodes. Fig. 2 shows a detector-amplifier DA comprising a triode with an auxiliary anode 3, the input from the circuit 1 being applied across the anode 3 and cathode 6 through a condenser 4, having negligible impedance for high frequencies, and shunted by a leak resistance 5. Rectification only takes place in the circuit 1, 3, 6, 4, the triode 6, 7, 8 acting as a lowfrequency amplifier suitably biased by resistance 10 and battery 11. A pentode, with a small auxiliary anode, may be used instead of a triode, Fig. 3 (not shown). A construction of the valve electrode system is shown in Fig. 4. The cathode 6 projects from the normal electrode system 7, 8, the projecting portion being associated with the auxiliary anode 3 whose leading-in wire also serves as a support.
