Abstract
<PICT:0360070/III/1> In a process for producing finely divided lead oxides comprising feeding lead-bearing materials into an atmosphere of heated air or oxygen, the lead-bearing material consists of lead suboxide or substantially of lead suboxide. As shown in the Figure, litharge is produced by blowing lead suboxide together with air through a passage b into a combustion chamber A heated by oil or gas to 250-700 DEG C. The flames from the burners envelop the reaction mixture, and the product is withdrawn by a fan D through a cooling chamber C to collecting chambers. Red lead is formed by repeatedly passing the litharge through the chamber or by heating it in a separate chamber.
