Abstract

359,826. Speedcontrolled brakes. BLANCHARD, R. L., 716, Whitlock Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 26, 1931, No. 2551. [Class 103 (i).] A governor for limiting the speed of a revolving door is actuated by friction gear from the door shaft, and controls a solenoid which applies a brake on the door shaft ; the door can be folded and moved aside when required without interfering with the governor gear. The door is'suspended from a carriage A, Fig. 1, on which it can be moved aside, and the brake F is carried on this carriage and operated by a lever 12. A wheel 22 carried on a spring-biased lever 28 in the governor gear case is pressed into engagement with a friction wheel 21 on the door shaft, and drives an ordinary centrifugal governor G, which is also carried on the lever 28. The governor operates a bell crank 62, Fig. 4, and when the speed of the door exceeds a value determined by an adjustable weight 66 on a scalebeam fixed to the bell crank a mercury switch 56 is tilted, as shown, to energize a solenoid 55, Fig. 1. This pulls the rod 53, and by means of a double crank mechanism moves a spring-controlled lever 35 to operate the brake lever 12 on the door carriage A. The wheel 21 and brake lever 12 automatically engage with or disengage from the governor gear when the door carriage A is moved.
