Abstract

<PICT:0359755/III/1> In liquid-phase destructive hydrogenation, the vaporous reaction products are cooled by heat exchange, within the reaction chamber, with the incoming cold hydrogen. Preferably the reaction products are first subjected to rectification by a series of bubble plates 5 immediately above the liquid. Cold hydrogen entering by the valve 17 passes through a coil 1 which condenses a reflux for the plates 5. A part of this reflux may be drawn off by a pipe 7. The uncondensed products pass through a concentric tube heat exchanger 2, supplied with hydrogen by a valve 20, and leave by a pipe 13. The heated hydrogen passes to a chamber 11 and thence into the reaction chamber. Specifications 329,045 and 338,150, [both in Class 32, Distilling &c.], are referred to.
