Abstract

In the separation of the products of destructive hydrogenation, cracking, &c. by cooling the products under pressure, separating the liquids from the gases, and distilling the liquid products with reduction of pressure, the liquids are distilled by heat exchange with the hot reaction products without employing any of this heat for heating the raw material. The hot products while still under reaction pressure are passed through coils in heat exchangers and through a condenser a, b, c into a separator e from which gases are removed. The pressure on the liquids is reduced in a column j where further separation of gases takes place but any vapours evolved are condensed by a dephlegmator l and returned through a pipe m to the base of the column from which the liquids are pumped through the heat exchanger c into the distillation column u to which further <PICT:0388171/III/1> heat is supplied by circulating the liquid from the base of the column by a pump v through the heat exchanger b and then back to the column through a pipe x.
