Abstract
359,361. Insulators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Bower, G. W. ; 2217, Union Avenue, Wesleyville, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) March 16,1931, No. 8034. Convention date, March 17, 1930. Drawings to Specification. [Class 36.] In order to avoid breakdown of insulation in a humid atmosphere, insulators constructed of material comprising mica and lead borate are soaked in an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid of about 10 per cent concentration for one to two hours, the white deposit thus formed on the insulator surface being removed by washings. In an insulator which has ferrous metal portions, these portions are preferably painted over or covered with zinc before the sulphuric acid treatment so as to avoid corrosion. Specification 152,780, [Class 22, Cements &c.], is referred to.
