Abstract
359,202. Stereotype. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Wood Newspaper Machinery Corporation; 501, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 18, 1930, No. 31316. [Class 100 (ii).] In a stereotype casting-machine of the type in which the core 11 is rotatably mounted on a horizontal axis and the back 12 is vertically reciprocable to and from the core, the back is also adapted to swing about an axis situated at a distance from its convex side to facilitate access to the matrix. The back 12 is connected by rods 14 to cranks on a shaft 13, the back and rods 14 being connected together by eccentric pins 15 actuated by arms 16 and adjusting-screws 17 for effecting correct engagement of the back and core. The back is normally held in position beneath the core by springs 22 and adjustable stops 23. The back is guided by extensions 21 which slide over guides 20 pivoted on the concentric part of the shaft 13 and connected by turn-buckles 24 to arms 25 on a shaft 26 oscillated by a handle 27. In use, the back normally reciprocates under the influence of the crank-shaft 13, towards and from the core for casting and removal of the plate. When the mould is closed, the matrix holders engage with studs 29 fixed to the frame in order to force the matrix into position. In order to insert a new matrix the back is withdrawn from the core and the shaft 26 is rotated by the handle 27 to swing the back and guides 20 away from the core. The turn-buckle 24 and arm 25 form a toggle in both the vertical and inclined positions of the back.
