Abstract

358,672. Light-sensitive cells. CONSTABLE, F. H., St. John's, Cashio Lane, Letchworth, Hertfordshire, and RADIOVISOR PARENT, Ltd., 28, Little Russell Street, London. Sept. 3, 1930, No. 26350. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iii).] Transparent colourless substances, which crystallize in the hexagonal or rhombohedral system and are stable to selenium at 400‹ C., are incorporated in light-sensitive films on an insulated base. Colloidal silica or alumina, aluminum phosphate, barium carbonate, berylium oxide, calcium carbonate, zinc oxide, or calcium silicate may be used. Traces of other substances may be added to modify the cell characteristics, for example silver selenide, mercuric sulphide, mercuric iodide, molybdenum sulphide, metallic ores containing selenium, silver, caseium, and lead, and substances described in Specification 343,939. Suitable mixtures are 93À6 per cent selenium, and 6À4 per cent silica gel ; 3 per cent tellurium, 5 per cent alumina, and 92 per cent selenium ; 3 per cent tellurium, 6À4 per cent silica gel, and 90À6 per cent selenium. When particular sensitivity to infra-red rays is required the mixture comprises 12 per cent tellurium, 6 per cent silica gel, and 82 per cent selenium. Specification 284,942, [Class 40 (iii), Telegraphs, Electric], also is referred to.
