Abstract

357,430. Making window envelopes. WINKLER, A. and DUNNEBIER, M., Neuwied, Germany. Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36086. [Class 94 (ii).] In an envelope folding machine in which there is disposed before the folding apparatus and after the feeding or gumming devices an apparatus for stamping out a window and sticking a window piece thereon or for sticking on a lining paper, the blanks, arranged in stepped overlapping relationship, are fed by conveyer bands 1, 2 to a more rapidly moving band 4 and co-operating rolls 5, 6, 7 which draw out the blanks until the window portions and the rear re-entrant angles thereof are exposed. Feed rolls 8, 9 direct the blanks to fingers 10, 11 adapted to engage the front and rear re-entrant corners thereof while a stamp 12 cuts out the window opening. During this operation the front portion of the blank lies between rolls 13, 14 in a cut-away portion of the roll 14, the rolls 13, 14 after the operation passing the blank beneath a type gummer 15 to rolls 19, 20. The roller 19, which is provided with suction openings and draws transparent material from a roll 28, rotates at the same peripheral speed as the blanks and applies thereto the transparent patch severed from the web by cutters 29. The blank may then be conducted to a known drying apparatus.
