Abstract
357,319. Winches. DEMAG AKT.- GES., Duisburg, Germany. July 21, 1930, No. 22027. Convention date, July 19, 1929. [Class 78 (v).] An electrically driven winch has the drum, gear casing and motor casing in axial alignment, the gear casing being in the middle and closed at one end by the motor casing and at the other end by the drum which also encloses the last pinion of the driving gear. The motor 1 is enclosed in a flanged casing la secured to the gear casing 12, the drum 9 being loosely mounted on a shaft 10 having a flange 11 mounted on the gear casing and the drum forming a tight joint 17 with the flange 16 of the gear casing. The motor 1 drives through a clutch 25, 26 the gear shaft 2, gear wheels 4, 5, and a pinion 7 engaging an internal gear ring 8 on the drum. The inner clutch member is normally pressed against a brake ring 27 by a spring 31. In operation, on starting up the motor the axial pull of the off-set rotor causes disengagement of the clutch. To engage the motor and gearing a solenoid 28 is energized thus moving its armature 30 to the left, causing engagement of the clutch members, freeing the inner member from the brake ring and rotating the drum through the gears. The pinion 4 has inclined teeth to produce an axial thrust proportionate to the load and acting in conjunction with the spring 31. A toothed wheel 22 engaging the pinion 4 dips into an oil reservoir 23 for lubrication. A drainage pipe 19 removes seepage water from the casing. Specification 355,358 is referred to.
