Abstract

357,290. Road vehicle suspensions. FERRARIS, A., 38, Princes Park Avenue, Golders Green, London, and SERVE, A. J., Chez Nous, Bassetsbury Lane, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. July 2, 1930, No. 20046. [Class 79 (iv).] In six-wheeled motor vehicles having two rear axles connected by inverted equalizing springs the links or shackles connecting the ends of the springs to the axles are rigid with the brake drums, and the brake torque reaction is resisted by radius or torque rods. The forward end of the spring 9 is connected by a shackle 9a to the forward axle 4 which is connected to the frame by radius rods 20 having spherical connections at one end and adapted to take the braking torque and the longitudinal reactions. The rearward end of the spring-9 is connected to a shackle 9a, 13 pivoted to the axle, the upper end being connected to a radius rod 12, the forward end of which is connected by a spherical joint to a projection 10 from the main supporting bracket 1. The link 12 and the rear half of the spring 9 constitute in effect a parallel linkwork which resists the braking reactions. The brake-operating members 17, 22 are connected to the frame in the neighbourhood of the pivots of the radius rods so that the up-and-down movements of the axles do not effect the operation of the brakes.
