Abstract
A non-reactive resin from thiourea or mixtures thereof with urea with formaldehyde and a methylene-containing hardening agent in a solid or partially polymerized state such as solidified formaldehyde (which is paste comprising paraformaldehyde and formaldehyde solution) or paraformaldehyde in proportion to impart to the resin a potentially reactive character are dissolved in a common solvent for the resin and the hardening agent. Suitable solvents are ethyl lactate, ethylene glycol, the ethyl ether of ethylene glycol or mixtures thereof.ALSO:A non-reactive resin from thiourea or mixtures of urea and thiourea with formaldehyde and a methylene-containing hardening-agent in a solid or partially polymerized state such as paraformaldehyde or solidified formaldehyde (which is a paste comprising paraformaldehyde and formaldehyde solution) in proportion to impart to the resin a potentially reactive character are dissolved in a common solvent for the resin and hardening-agent to give a varnish. Suitable solvents are ethyl lactate, ethylene glycol, the ethyl ether of ethylene glycol or mixtures thereof. In an example thiourea or mixtures thereof with urea are condensed with aqueous formaldehyde, the resin precipitated preferably by the addition of water, dissolved in a suitable solvent and paraformaldehyde or solidified formaldehyde added.
