Abstract
356,781. Bending pipes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd., 41, Oswald Street, Glasgow, and BARMAN, H. L., Braefield, Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire. April 14, 1930, No. 11727. Grant of Patent opposed. [Class 83 (iv).] Corrugating.-A pipe 1, particularly for conveying high-temperature steam, is bent by marking out elliptical zones 7 thereon, supporting the pipe at one end, and heating the zones in turn to red heat by a blowpipe &c., and applying a force to the other end of the pipe by a tube or mandrel inserted therein. The pipe is thus caused to bend and a buckle is formed at the heated portion, the operation being repeated at each zone 7 until the desired curvature is obtained. The support may comprise an external ring 3 and an internal mandrel 2. The ring may be replaced by a sleeve located between two upright pegs mounted on the table. Two modified holding devices are shown in dotted and full lines respectively in Fig. 4.
