Abstract
356,468. High - tension switches. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Sept. 2, 1930, No. 26200. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1929. [Class 38 (v).] Expansion switches in which the arc at break is extinguished by the sudden expansion of selfgenerated vapour pressure, as described in Specification 354,890, employ a resistance liquid, for example soda solution as the switching liquid so that in the switching-in movement the resistance of the liquid is inserted in the circuit before the contacts 3, 4 come together. In the arrangement shown in which the walls 1 of the expansion chamber are of conducting material, the fixed contact is surrounded by an insulating cylinder 9 which isolates a portion of the switching liquid. Small holes 10 in the lower part of the cylinder ensure that the levels of liquid, inside and outside are the same. An external glass tube n serves to indicate the height of the switching liquid. In the form shown, the pressure is built up in the switching chamber, at break, until suddenly released by the automatic opening of the valve 8.
