Abstract

356,447. Aircraft landing-gear. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G. and LLOYD, J., Park Side, Coventry. Aug. 22, 1930, No. 25127. [Class 4.] The greater part of the axle, and the oleo-leg of an aircraft landing-gear are arranged within the fuselage and in some cases the oleo-leg may be constituted by a strut of the fuselage frame. A divided axle 4 is shown braced to the frame at its centre by members 13, 15 within the fuselage shell. The oleo-legs 5 are connected to the axle near radius rods 10. The axles carry wheel fairings 9 which have no other support. A modification is described in which a continuous axle passes through the fuselage and is hinged to pistons moving in tubular struts of the fuselage frame, one of the hinged joints having a sliding connection with the axle.
