Abstract

356,337. Bowden mechanism. BOWDEN WIRE, Ltd. and NISBET, A. H., Bowden Works, Victoria Road, Willesden Junction, London. June 19, 1930, No. 18768. [Class 80 (iii).] In a twist grip control in which the power transmission is effected by thrust on the sheath, a rigid guide tube 8 for the sheath is provided to give a gradual change from the peripheral to the axial direction. The inner cable is passed through a peripheral groove 9a in an abutment 5 on a drum 4, Fig. 7, secured to the reduced end 3 of the tubular handle 1, and is anchored to the clamping ring 7. The abutment 5 works in a groove 6 in the ring 7, to which is attached the guide 8, and bears against the end of the sheath. The ring 7 may have a second groove for the reception of a collar 17, drum 18, similar to the drum 4, and a guide tube 24 for the accommodation of an additional control operated by a finger-piece 22, 23. The guide tubes are applicable also to the actuated device. Specification 17777/13, [Class 80 (iii), Linkwork &c.], is referred to.
