Abstract
356,016. Stroboscopic apparatus. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Butler Patents Corporation; M. & T. Building, Buffalo, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31609. [Class 97 (i).] Apparatus for observing, or measuring the speed of, a rotating or vibrating body, such as a gear wheel, comprises a source of illumination and a rotating mirror for intermittently illuminating the body, with means for adjusting and indicating the speed of rotation of the mirror. As shown, two mirrors 29 are mounted back-to-back on a shaft 16 which is driven through friction gearing 12, 15, by a motor 6. The friction wheel 15 can be adjusted across the face of the disc 12 by means of a thumb wheel 26 to vary the speed of the shaft 16. The mirror is illuminated by a lamp 45 and the reflected light is received by an adjustable lens system 34, 35, a diaphragm 41 being adjustably mounted between the lenses. The lamp casing is ventilated by a fan 53 mounted on the motor shaft. The speed of the shaft 16 is indicated by a tachometer 63. A telescope &c. may be mounted on the apparatus to facilitate the observation of a remote object.
