355,663. Tobacco-feeding mechanism. EBCO MACHINE CORPORATION, 345, West 40th Street, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Grupe, W. F. ; 460, Page Avenue, Lyndhurst, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 19, 1930, No. 15392. Convention date, May 23, 1929. [Class 130.] A tobacco-feeding mechanism comprises a main tobacco conveyer, for instance a carded roller 10, a bulk supply container 13, means for leading tobacco from the container to the surface of the roller 10 to charge the latter with tobacco, and trimming rolls 27 .. 29 operated continuously so that their faces adjacent to the roller 10 move in the opposite direction to the movement of the surface of the roller 10 and at a higher speed. As shown, the tobacco is led to the surface of the roller 10 by a conduit formed by a feed belt 15, running over pulleys 16, 17 and a plate 19, and a carded belt 21 running over pulleys 22, 23 and a plate 25. The trimming rolls 27 .. 29 are preferably driven at a speed much higher than that of the roller 10, and excess tobacco is returned by the rolls 27 .. 29 and the belt 21 to the main supply. The tobacco on the roller 10 passes under a guard plate 32 and a comb 37 and is showered by a picker roll 33 into the shoot 34 and upon a strip 36 of cigarette paper.
