Abstract
355,519. Convertible four- and sixwheeled vehicles. THEOBALD, N., 20, Powis Road, Ashton-on-Ribble, near Preston. Sept. 2, 1930, Nos. 26137/30 and 13473/31. [Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii).] To convert a four-wheeled to a six-wheeled vehicle, a detachable body portion having two road wheels at or near its end is attached to the existing frame after the whole or a portion of the usual body has been removed. The detachable body portion, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises side members e<1>, transverse members e and a floor, the side members e<1> resting upon and overhanging rearwardly from the metal channel side frames D of the vehicle. The body side members e<1> are clamped down to the channel members D by hooks h<4>, levers h<3> and a disc h<1> which is forced downwardly by a screw H, working in a nut carried by a transverse member. In a modification two transverse shafts with cams clamp the body and car side frames together.
