Abstract

420,866. Vehicle opening-tops. GRIMSTON, F. B. S., Greycoats, Park Road, Haslemere, Surrey. March 9, 1934, No. 7607. [Class 108 (i)] In vehicle hoods of the kind in which a rigid top is movable from its erected position to lie upon the rear end of the car, the top is pivotally mounted on the body by link members so arranged that parts-of the links intermediate of the pivots engage the top when the latter is erected. The rigid top 2 is connected to the body by link members 3 pivoted to the top and to the body at 5 and the link members are formed as sectors which may comprise the side lights 4 the curved part engaging the top when the latter is in its erected position. The rear end of the top is guided on the car body by means of pivoted slides 18 co-operating with guides 21. The top is provided with channel side members 16 lined with felt 17 and cooperating with flanges 14 on the sector-like links 3 for weatherproof purposes. The links 3 are connected to the top by means of lugs 9 in which engage a U-shaped bar 11 fixed to the top while the top may be locked by means of a bar 26 having a pad 28 bearing against a flexible wall 24 of the body and another pad 31 on the end of a pivoted continuation 30 of the bar which continuation is provided with a handle 33 to cause the pads 28, 31 to engage or disengage the flexible sides of the body to press upon or release the links 3.
