Abstract
355,260. Optical sound-reproducing apparatus. ROBINSON, W. A., 44, Clifton Avenue, Wembley Hill, Middlesex, and COROLECTRIC, Ltd., 80, Wardour Street, London. May 16, 1930, No. 15156. [Class 40 (ii).] A sound-gate for the optical reproduction of sound comprises two hollow co-axial drums within which is supported a light sensitive cell. To prevent scratching of the sound record this portion of the film is arranged not to contact with the drums. A cylindrical member 10 has screw-threaded end portions 11 closed by a cap 14 and is connected to a frame member 12 by a locking ring 13. The other end of the member 10 comprises a reduced portion 15 upon which a drum 17 is free to rotate while a fixed drum 18 constitutes an end cap. In operation the film 28 passes around the drums 17, 18 between guiding shoulders 16, 21 so rotating the drum 17 which is in contact with the picture portion of the film 28. The sound-record portion of the film 28 coincides with an annular recess 19 in the fixed drum 18 to prevent contact with the drums and so avoid scratching. A light beam from a source outside the drums is directed through the sound record portion of the film and an aperture 24 on to a light sensitive cell 23 which is supported within the drums and close to the film by a wall of resilient material 22. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 293,380, 295,603, (as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts) [both in Class 40 (ii), Phonographs &c.], 319,246, 330,504, and 338,847, [all in Class 40 (ii), Phonographs &c.].
