Abstract
341,624. Kinematograph apparatus. GRAMOPHONE CO., Ltd., Hayes, Middlesex, and TEDHAM, W. F., 267, Woolwich Road, Abbey Wood, London. Nov. 19, 1929, No. 35379. [Class 97 (i).] Continuous-feed apparatus of the type described in Specification 336,284, [Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.], is adapted for the combined recording or reproduction of sounds and pictures, and includes sound and picture gates which are substantially alongside one another. As shown, a film 1 bearing sound and picture records passes round a drum 2 within which a number of radially disposed plane mirrors 4 rotate about the drum axis 5 at one-half the speed of the film 1. Light from a lamp 6 passes through a lens 7 and the film 1 and falls obliquely upon two of the mirrors 4. A virtual stationary image of the illuminated part of the film AB is formed at A<1>, B<1> on the drum circumference and light rays from this image pass through a prism 10, lens 9, and prism 8 so as to emerge in a direction approximately parallel to the axis of the drum 2 so as to be thrown upon a viewing screen. Light from the lamp 6 also passes through the sound record on the film 1 and is reflected from a prism 11 through an optical system 12 and light slit 13 on to a photo-electric cell 14 from which a loud speaker is operated. The recorded sounds are substantially alongside the corresponding individual pictures on the film. If the record carrier is of paper or other opaque material the light 6 occupies a position 15, the light rays being reflected from the sound and picture records on to the prisms 11 and 10 respectively. If there is a small amount of stagger between the positions of the sound and picture records on the film this may be corrected by adjusting the angle of tilt of the prism 11 about an axis parallel to the light slit 13. The sound and picture records may be illuminated by light from separate sources. Specifications 323,923, [Class 40 (ii), Phonographs &c.], also is referred to.
