Feb. 19, 1930, No. 5568. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1929. [Class 80 (ii).] In sound-record film-driving apparatus, in which one of the driving-members is a drum rotating at a substantially uniform speed, a flywheel is associated with the shaft carrying the drum and is connected with the shaft through a friction coupling and a centrifugally-acting clutch in such a manner that the flywheel is started up gradually and is firmly connected to the shaft only when a predetermined speed is reached. As shown, a flywheel 70 is freely mounted on a flanged sleeve 71 keyed to a shaft 40, through which a film-driving drum 16 is driven, the flange carrying pins 73 on which is mounted a friction ring 74 pressed by springs against the bevelled hub of the flywheel. Two semicircular clamps 78, pivoted on the flywheel, surround the rings 74, and are pressed into gripping engagement with it, only when the speed of the flywheel reaches that of the shaft 40, by spring-controlled levers 79 pivoted on the flywheel, which levers swing out centrifugally.
