Abstract

355,157. Variable-speed generator systems. CROCKER-WHEELER ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO., Ampere, New Jersey, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Spencer, M. C. ; 105, Park Street, East Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Dec. 11, 1930, No. 37364. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1929. [Class 38 (iv).] Regulation, automatic.-An alternator 5 with a direct current field winding 6 is connected in series with a load 9 and a condenser 13 designed nearly to neutralize the inductive reactance of the circuit at a frequency corresponding to the minimum speed at which the generator is to work, the difference between the condenser reactance and the reactance of the inductive portions of the circuit, which may comprise a reactor 12 in series with the condenser, absorbing any increase in electromotive force when the generator speed rises further. A rectifier 7 is connected in parallel with the load circuit to excite the field winding and a primary battery 19 and switch are provided to energize this winding initially. Specifications 2342/05, 10118/05, 14938/05, [all in Class 38, Electricity, Regulating &c.], 295,097 and 304,768, [both in Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.], are referred to.
