[Class 17 (iii).] The spring 1 of a boot &c. stretcher is so fitted to the toe part 2 that the pressure acts at an angle obliquely from the top and presses the toe part to stretch the boot longitudinally and not to widen the toe upwards. The spring may be detachably mounted to screw into a socket bored into a face 6, as shown in Fig. 4, or it may be attached to a socket fitting pivoted at 12 in a slot 11 in the part 2 which has an abutment to maintain the spring in correct position when in use.
