Abstract

353,534. Current meters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and STOCKS, H. R., Columbia House, Aldwych, London. April 30, 1930, No. 13335. [Class 37.] The range of an ammeter is changed by means of a commutator 12 which varies the amount of shunt resistance in parallel with the moving coil 3, a subdial 6 connected by flexible bands 8 to the commutator shaft 9 being simultaneously moved so as to expose the corresponding scale graduations through openings 31 in the dial 5. In parallel with the moving coil 3 is a sensitive relay A which, at a predetermined maximum value of the current through the coil 3, closes the circuit of a relay B which disconnects the ammeter and operates an alarm such as a buzzer Z. On turning the shaft 9 to change the range, a notched wheel 38 closes and opens a contact which short-circuits the relay B and thus resets the ammeter. A key T is provided for testing the action of the relay B or buzzer Z.
