[Class 106 (i).] The ratio of two quantities is given by an apparatus comprising two potentiometers 1, 2 connected in shunt to a source 3 of constant potential. A voltmeter 6 is connected to contacts 4, 5 sliding on the potentiometer windings, and reading against scales placed adjacent thereto The resistance y included between one end of a winding and the sliding connection when the latter is over a scale reading x is given by the formula y=log x<n>, n being an arbitrary constant. The voltmeter is graduated to indicate the ratio directly. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the sliding contacts 4, 5 may be set by hand to the values read off adjacent measuring instruments. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
