Abstract

Azo dyes, soluble metal compounds of.-Azo dyestuffs containing metal and suitable for dyeing natural or loaded silk from a neutral or fatty soap bath are obtained by coupling diazotized 5-nitro-2-aminophenol with 1 : 8 : 4-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid or an N-acyl derivative thereof in an alkaline medium and treating the product with an agent yielding one or more metals. Specified acyl groups are acetyl and benzoyl. In an example the dyestuff 5-nitro-2-aminophenol --> (alkaline) 1 : 8 : 4-acid is boiled with an ammoniacal copper oxide solution; the product dyes natural or loaded silk from a neutral bath uniform pure green-blue shades. Specifications 26460/12, 1611/15, 16803/15, and 271,897, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use as coupling components of the N-m-nitrobenzoyl, N-m-amino-benzoyl and N-sulphoaryl derivatives of 1 : 8 : 4-acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
